Stock up on your books, tapes, CDs and DVDs today, as we will be closed for Wagon Days tomorrow, and Labor Day on Monday. Everyone have a safe and fun weekend! There is still an Air Quality alert, and an open burn ban in Blaine County and the surrounding national forests.
Last night the blues mojo was strong, and the air stayed clear throughout the excellent concert at the Sun Valley Pavilion. Mavis Staples and the Staple Singers were marvellous, even challenged by the high altitude. If you missed her performance, or want to hear more, we have the DVD Lightning in a Bottle. The DVD showcases 50 star blues players who gathered in New York for a special benefit–players include Buddy Guy, Keb’ Mo’, Honeyboy Edwards and Mos Def. I hope to add two new Mavis Staples CDs to the collection next week, including a collection of her power soul hits from the sixties and seventies, and her newest release.
Not to forget, Bonnie Raitt played a fine long set last night, reminiscent of her performances twenty years ago at the old Creekside Montana bar. The audience was treated to some classic standards from Nick of Time and Silver Lining, as well as new releases from Slipstream, available now for checkout at the Community Library. We will be open until 6:00 pm Friday before the holiday.
